Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0: What a Clip Actually Costs

On ByteDance’s API a Seedance 2.5 clip costs about 1.5 times a 2.0 clip. Token billing explained, 5 s and 10 s prices by resolution, and the 4K question.

On ByteDance’s own API, a Seedance 2.5 clip costs about one and a half times the same clip on Seedance 2.0. A 10-second 16:9 clip works out at roughly $1.03 against $0.70 at 480p, $2.31 against $1.52 at 720p, and $5.69 against $3.74 at 1080p. What the extra buys is length and references: 30 seconds in one pass instead of 15, and up to 50 reference files instead of 15. What it does not buy, on the API, is 4K.Reasoning, September 2026 — BytePlus’s published 5-second prices, doubled; the table and sources are below.

TL;DR — THE SHORT VERSION
  • Both are billed in tokens, and the tokens are just pixels times time. Longer, sharper or smoother video means more tokens; BytePlus publishes the formula.
  • 2.5 costs about half as much again per clip. The token rate is higher and the token count is about the same, so the gap barely moves with resolution.
  • 2.5 doubles the longest clip and more than triples the references. ByteDance’s own table: 30 seconds against 15, and 50 references against 15.
  • Only 2.0 has a 4K price on the API. The 4K claim for 2.5 comes from Dreamina’s marketing page, and ByteDance’s own API docs list no 4K output for it.
  • Dreamina and BytePlus are priced differently. The app sells credits on plans; the API sells tokens. Their per-second prices are not directly comparable.

How token billing turns into seconds

For video, a token is not a word. BytePlus counts the size of the job: seconds, pixels per frame, and frames per second. Its pricing page gives the formula in full: “Estimated token consumption = (Input video duration + Output video duration) × Output video width × Output video height × Output video frame rate / 1024”, and the price is “Token unit price × Token consumption”.ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “Estimated video price: Token unit price × Token consumption”.

In plain English, three things follow. Double the length and you double the tokens. Go from 720p to 1080p and the frame has 2.25 times as many pixels, so the tokens go up by the same factor. And if you feed a video in, its length is added to the output’s, so the input you edit or extend is billed too.Reasoning, September 2026 — from the formula above; 1920 × 1080 pixels is 2.25 times 1280 × 720.

The published examples fit the formula. BytePlus prices a 5-second 16:9 Seedance 2.5 clip at 1080p at “2.843 per video”; at $11.70 per million tokens, that is about 243,000 tokens, which is almost exactly what the formula gives for 1920 × 1080 pixels at 24 frames a second.Reasoning, September 2026 — our back-calculation from BytePlus’s published example; the pricing page does not state the frame rate its examples assume.

Two rules soften the risk. BytePlus says “You are only charged for successfully generated videos.” And the rate per token is lower when a video is an input, but the bill is not: “A video generated with video input costs more than one generated without video input.”ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “No fee is charged if generation fails due to reasons such as content moderation.”

TAKEAWAY

You are paying for pixels over time. Before you compare models, fix the length and resolution, because either one moves the bill more than the choice of model does.

What a 5-second and a 10-second clip cost

BytePlus prices Seedance 2.5 at $10.70 per million tokens for 480p and 720p and $11.70 for 1080p, with text or images as input. Seedance 2.0 is $7.00 for 480p and 720p, $7.70 for 1080p and $4.00 for 4K.ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628 “Input without video: 10.70” (480p and 720p) and “Input without video: 11.7” (1080p); dreamina-seedance-2-0-260128 “Input without video: 7.0”, “Input without video: 7.7” and, for 4K, “Input without video: 4.0” (USD per million tokens).

The 5-second column below is BytePlus’s own worked example. The 10-second column doubles it, because with no video input the token count rises in step with the output length.

A 16:9 clip made from text or images, no video input. US dollars, BytePlus list prices as of 22 Sep 2026.

ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026, 5-second 16:9 examples: Seedance 2.5 “0.514 per video”, “1.156 per video”, “2.843 per video”; Seedance 2.0 “0.35 per video 0.07 per second”, “1.87 per video 0.37 per second”, “3.89 per video 0.78 per second”. The 10-second column is this page’s arithmetic, rounded to the cent.

Divide across and 2.5 costs 1.47 times as much as 2.0 at 480p and 1.52 times at 720p and 1080p. That is close to the ratio of the two token rates: at 720p and 1080p the examples imply near enough the same token count on both models, and at 480p the 2.0 example implies slightly more.Reasoning, September 2026 — from the published examples above.

SEEDANCE 2.5 VS 2.0 · COST OF A 10-SECOND CLIP
BytePlus list prices as of 22 Sep 2026, 16:9, no video input. The 5-second examples doubled. 2.5 has no 4K price on the API.

2.5 · 720p$2.31

2.0 · 480p$0.70
ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026, 5-second 16:9 examples: Seedance 2.5 “2.843 per video”; Seedance 2.0 “3.89 per video 0.78 per second”. The 10-second figures are this page’s arithmetic.

A full 30-second 2.5 clip at 1080p would be about $17.06, six times the 5-second example. Through the API, Seedance 2.0 cannot make 30 seconds in one pass; two 15-second 1080p clips would be about $11.22, and you would have to join them.Reasoning, September 2026 — multiples of BytePlus’s 5-second examples, assuming the no-video-input rate and the linear formula; not a published price.

Adding a video input changes the picture. For a 5-second 2.5 clip at 720p, BytePlus gives “1.244-4.838” dollars, depending on whether the input video runs 2 or 30 seconds.ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “Highest price corresponds to 30 seconds input”.

TAKEAWAY

Budget for about half as much again per clip on 2.5. The premium is fixed, so it only matters in proportion to how many takes you run.

What 2.5 adds over 2.0, in ByteDance’s words

ByteDance’s API tutorial for 2.5 lists the differences plainly. Length: “The maximum generated video duration is extended from 15 seconds to 30 seconds.” Its capability table gives 2.5 an output of 4 to 30 seconds and the 2.0 series 4 to 15.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “The upper limit for Seedance 2.5 video generation duration has been extended from 15 seconds in the Seedance 2.0 series to 30 seconds”.

  • References. 2.5 takes “50 (30 images + 10 videos + 10 audios)”; 2.0 takes “15 (9 images + 3 videos + 3 audios)”. 2.5 also accepts an audio reference on its own, where 2.0 marks it “✗ (requires image/video)”.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, capabilities overview, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026.
  • Draft mode. Only 2.5 has it: a cheap 480p preview you approve before paying for the final. The draft is billed like any 480p clip, and the final made from it is 1080p only.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “When generating a final video from a Draft video, Dreamina Seedance 2.5 currently supports only 1080p output.” On the prices above, a 5-second draft costs under a fifth of its 1080p final.Reasoning, September 2026 — $0.514 against $2.843.
  • Output. 1080p on 2.5 is 10-bit colour, against 8-bit on 2.0, and 2.5 adds a mov format beside mp4. It also lists 11 languages.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “Dreamina Seedance 2.5 1080p output uses 10-bit color depth and H.265/HEVC encoding.”

On quality, ByteDance says only that “Improved visual quality produces results with a more realistic, cinematic look.” That is the vendor’s claim, not a measurement. This page found no published benchmark comparing the two versions, and the video leaderboard as this site last read it had no row for 2.5 at all; the models page keeps that snapshot, dated.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026.

TAKEAWAY

Pay for 2.5 when you need a shot longer than 15 seconds or more than 15 references. For a short clip with a few references, the documented differences are small.

The 4K question

Dreamina’s 2.5 page opens with “Create cinematic 4K videos with Seedance 2.5 in Dreamina.” and later promises “clean-based 4K videos”.Dreamina (ByteDance), Seedance 2.5, read at source 22 Sep 2026: “Its improved stability removes random subtitles and unwanted BGM, delivering clean-based 4K videos ready for text and music editing.”

ByteDance’s own API documentation does not back that up for developers. The pricing page has a 4K row for 2.0 and none for 2.5, and the tutorial lists 2.5’s output as 480p, 720p and 1080p, while 2.0 gets “4k (10-bit color depth)”.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, capabilities overview, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: 2.5 output resolution “1080p (10-bit color depth)” at the top. Dreamina also runs a separate page for “Seedance 2.0 4K”.Dreamina (ByteDance), Seedance 2.0 4K, read at source 22 Sep 2026: “Create stunning 4K AI videos with Dreamina's Seedance 2.0 4K”.

So, as of 22 Sep 2026: 4K from Seedance 2.0 is documented and priced, at $7.78 for a 10-second clip. 4K from 2.5 is a claim on the consumer app’s marketing page that this site has not confirmed.Reasoning, September 2026 — the 4K row of the table above, doubled from BytePlus’s 5-second example of “3.89 per video 0.78 per second”.

TAKEAWAY

If a job must be delivered in 4K from the API, the documented route today is 2.0, not 2.5.

Dreamina app or BytePlus API

These are two ways to buy the same models. BytePlus ModelArk is the developer route: pay per token, no plan. Its tutorial recommends a balance of more than $30 before you switch 2.5 on.ByteDance, BytePlus Dreamina Seedance 2.5 tutorial, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026: “Recommended: BytePlus account balance > USD 30”. Dreamina is the consumer app, sold on credit plans.

Dreamina’s own price guide, dated 14 Aug 2026, says: “On Dreamina, Seedance 2.5 starts at $0.097 per second on the compared annual plan, while Seedance 2.0 reaches $0.046 per second on its best current monthly promotional offer.” It gives 2.0 at $0.055 a second on the best annual offer.Dreamina (ByteDance), Seedance Price Guide 2026: Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 Costs Compared, 14 Aug 2026, read at source 22 Sep 2026: “The rates above come from different plan contexts and should not be treated as a quality ranking.”

Those look cheaper than the API, but they are not the same measure: they assume a prepaid plan used in full, one is a promotion, and the guide does not say which resolution they buy. Its comparisons with other platforms are ByteDance marketing its own app and are not repeated here.Reasoning, September 2026 — read against the guide’s own caveat: “Promotions, taxes, renewal prices, regional availability, and credit rules can change, so always confirm the live checkout terms.”

One API discount is worth knowing about and easy to misread: BytePlus has cut prices on the cheaper 2.0 fast and 2.0 mini variants until 7 October 2026, but “The discounts apply only to enterprise users.”ByteDance, BytePlus ModelArk Pricing, page last updated 22 Sep 2026, read in a browser 22 Sep 2026.

TAKEAWAY

A per-second price on a plan is only true if you use the whole plan. Pay per token while you work out how many seconds you really generate.

For writing the prompt itself, the Seedance cheat sheet has ByteDance’s template and the cinematic sheet covers the look. For other video models priced by the second, see AI video model prices and what Veo actually costs.

What this page could not verify

  • Output quality. Nothing was generated here, and no independent benchmark comparing 2.5 with 2.0 was found.
  • Seedance 2.5 in 4K. Claimed on Dreamina’s page; absent from ByteDance’s API price list and capability table.
  • The frame rate behind the examples. The formula multiplies by frame rate, and Dreamina advertises “smoother videos up to 60 FPS” on paid plans. BytePlus does not say what frame rate its examples assume or whether API output can be set higher.
  • The 10-second, 15-second and 30-second prices. These are this page’s arithmetic from 5-second examples, not published figures.
  • What resolution Dreamina’s per-second plan prices buy. Its guide does not say.
