Half the Google AI tools you have heard of were renamed, merged or shut down in 2026. This page is the current list, with the date each change took effect and the page that reads the source behind it. If your notes are older than a few months, start here.
- Whisk and ImageFX are gone — folded into Flow on 25 February 2026.
- NotebookLM is Gemini Notebook, renamed 16 July 2026.
- Gemini CLI stopped serving most users on 18 June 2026; Antigravity CLI replaced it.
- Vertex AI is Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, from 23 April 2026.
- Imagen 4 shut down on 17 August 2026; Nano Banana is the image model now.
- Nothing here is a rumour. Every row links to the vendor page it came from.
Every price here was correct when this site last checked it, on 22 Sep 2026. Prices change often and this site no longer updates them, so check the vendor’s own page before you rely on one: Google pricing.

If you are making things
Video. Flow is the surface and Veo 3.1 is the model. Google folded two older tools into it: “the best capabilities from our image generation experiments — Whisk and ImageFX — are moving directly into Flow”.Google, Flow updates, 25 Feb 2026, read at source 16 Sep 2026. Images. Imagen 4 is off. The replacement is the Nano Banana family, and its rules — including the absence of a negative prompt — are on the Nano Banana cheat sheet.
Research and notes. NotebookLM kept every feature and changed its name. The detail is on Gemini Notebook, explained.
Google did not delete much in 2026. It merged and renamed. That is harder to notice than a shutdown, and it is why half-remembered tool names still return results that describe something that no longer exists under that name.
If you are building on the API
Start in AI Studio. It stays free unless you attach a paid key, and the split between it and the enterprise platform is on AI Studio vs Agent Platform.
Check your sampling parameters. Google deprecated temperature, top_p and top_k on 21 July 2026 — code that still sends them is described on the temperature deprecation.
If you scripted against Gemini CLI, it stopped serving most tiers on 18 June 2026. What carried over into Antigravity, and who was unaffected, is on Gemini CLI to Antigravity.
If you want weights. Gemma 4 now comes in five sizes under Apache 2.0 (it launched with four); how it compares with Meta’s open model is on Gemma 4 vs Muse Glimmer.
Model changes since August
These are Gemini API changes, newest first, each dated from Google’s own changelog.
- 18 Sep 2026 — Gemini 2.5 access narrowed. Google: “we are limiting access to the 2.5 models to users who have actively used them in the past. These models are not deprecated”. - 3 Sep 2026 — Lyria 3.5, the music model, generally available as
lyria-3.5. gemini-omni-1.1-flash.
